Open forum scheduled for Aug. 19 to discuss search for new provost |
|
Dear Members of the WWU Campus Community: As you know, Western Washington University is in the process of searching for a new Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Jim Appleberry of Academic Search, has been engaged to assist us in our search. Dr. Appleberry"s role is not to select our next Provost, but rather to help us in the search and selection process and ensure that we achieve our goal of securing the best possible Provost for WWU. Dr. Appleberry is eager to have our insights into the present status and needs of the Provost position and to hear your views of the type of leadership we should be seeking. To this end, a Campus-wide Open Forum is scheduled for Tuesday, August 19 @ 12:00 - 1:45 p.m. in Science Lecture 120 (SMATE Building). |

Old Main grass gets a paint job |
![]() Photo by Matthew Anderson | WWU The bluish-green color of the grassy hillside in front of Old Main comes from the dye in an herbicide WWU grounds crews have applied in recent days. The spray is tinged with color so that workers know which areas already have been sprayed. The herbicide poses no danger to humans or animals. The grass on the hillside in front of Old Main is looking a little greener -- and a little bluer -- lately. That's because WWU grounds crews have sprayed an herbicide on the grass -- and on some small weeds in the area -- in an effort to kill it. The spray is tinged with blue-green dye so that workers can tell which areas already have been sprayed, said Gary Hodge, the grounds supervisor at Western. |

|
Click here or on the image at right for a gallery of photos from the event. Western Washington University dedicated its new Solar Demonstration Project -- a set of rooftop solar panels and an interactive educational kiosk inside the Viking Union -- on May 21. The project was almost three years in the making, according to Rose Woofenden, president of WWU's Students For Renewable Energy, the Associated Students club that spearheaded its installation. "We really look at this is an important stepping stone for further projects. What's important is to say that we did it, and we want to do it again on a bigger scale," she said. "But this is a great first step." |
