Students to present results of environmental impact studies on local projects

Students from Western Washington University's Huxley College of the Environment will present several Environmental Impact Assessments beginning Dec. 8.

Many student groups used the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Neighborhood Development framework and applied it to local projects. This LEED ND is a modified framework for assessing entire neighborhoods.

The following are the scheduled presentations:

  • "Environmental Assessment for Rosario Interpretive Center: Potential impacts and alternatives for a new facility construction at Deception Pass State Park," at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, Skagit Valley Campus Library, Zzarna Collins room.
  • "Barkley Village: LEED-ND Assessment: An evaluation of the Barkley Village project using the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Neighborhood Development framework," at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9, WWU Viking Union Room 552.
  • "LEED-ND Assessment of Bellwether Gate: An assessment of the proposed Bellwether Gate Development Phase II, using the pilot program LEED for Neighborhood Development," 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, WWU Communications Building Room 25.
  • "LEED-ND Assessment of the Edge Living Condominiums: An assessment of the Edge Condominiums development using the LEED-ND Pilot certification program," 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, Bellingham Food Co-op Community Center.
  • "LEED-ND Assessment of Millworks Development: An assessment of the Millworks Co-housing development using the LEED-ND Pilot framework," 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, Bellingham Food Co-op Community Center.
