Women, men earn victories over Saint Martin's University Saturday

Forward Willow Cabe scored a game-high 26 points as nationally ranked Western Washington University defeated Saint Martin's University, 77-64, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball contest Saturday on campus. On the men's side, forward Rory Blanche came off the bench and hit his first nine shots from the field in scoring a team-high 20 points as nationally ranked WWU defeated Saint Martin's University 88-68.

Students rally on WWU campus in support of education

Western Votes and the Associated Students of Western Washington University are planning a holding a walk-out and rally until 1:30 p.m. today, Feb. 5, in the Performing Arts Center Plaza on campus.

”In this rally it is our goal to educate the public about what it would mean to have the state's budget for higher education cut and inspire the student body into taking action to inform their legislators that they do not agree with the governor's new budget and proposed cuts to higher education,” said Western Votes member Heather Siddiqui.

Students pack the house at WWUsical premiere

Western Washington University students packed into Fraser Hall Room 4 Thursday night to watch the premiere of KVIK's “WWUsical.”

The film, based on the popular "High School Musical," is the first musical produced by KVIK, the WWU Associated Students television station.

Film crew shoots documentary on campus regarding research from WWU psychology professor on cell phone use

A Canadian film crew shooting for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation was on campus Friday, Jan. 22, to film Western Washington University professor Ira Hyman and to re-stage (with WWU's Joe Myers on unicycle) Hyman's research on cell phone use for a documentary.

New trees find homes on WWU campus

Last week, Western Washington University gardeners planted a Coast Redwood tree near the bird sanctuary and a Spanish Fir tree near the Fine Arts Building. The trees are part of an effort to replace trees damaged by recent windstorms and to diversify the collection of trees on campus. Both were paid for from a tree fund started by retired professor Myrl Beck. Take an online tour of campus trees at http://www.wwu.edu/treetour/.

Western Gallery's contemporary glass exhibit runs through March 13

Victoria Calabro, whose work “Yo-yos on Yellow Hill” is included in the Western Gallery winter exhibition “Transformations 6: Contemporary Works in Glass,” spoke on campus Tuesday, Jan. 19, as part of the Western Washington University Department of Art’s Studio Speaker Series.

Every year in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, local children gather at Village Books to hear stories about tolerance, the civil rights movement and cultures from around the world. The read-in and book drive event is sponsored by WWU's Center for Service-Learning, Village Books and the WWU Associated Students Bookstore.
