A benefit dance for Northwest Youth Services will take place Saturday, Feb. 20, at Western Washington University.
Proceeds from the event will support programs serving runaway and homeless youth throughout Whatcom and Skagit counties.
The dance will include refreshments as well as a display of artwork from youth that the organization serves. Music will be provided by DJ Fresh Boogie.

“Fall Into Dance” is an exciting concert that highlights the creativity and talents of Western’s dance majors and minors through performance, choreography, costume and set design.
Flamenco week continues at Western Washington University with a screening of the film "Flamenco," directed by Carlos Saura, from 7 to 9 p.m. in Fraser Hall Room 3. "Flamenco" is considered a documentary masterpiece in its portrayal of the essence of flamenco dance and song. Penny Hutchinson, an assistant professor in the Dance Department, and Paqui Paredes, an associate professor of Modern and Classical Languages, will provide a short introduciton to the film. This event is open to all.
Choreographer and dancer Pam Kuntz's latest work, "Wrinkles: Grace in Time," features five community members -- Dorothy Regal, Lynnette Allen, Barbara Sylvester, Marge Moench and Noemi Ban -- and dancers Paige Fredlund and Sarah Schermer, both recent Western Washington University graduates, in theater-dance performance that celebrates aging, using movement, music, poetry and photography.
Western Washington University student and Bellingham resident Jovon Miller has received a $3,000 Congressional Black Caucus Spouses Performing Arts Scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year, one of only 10 such scholarships given nationally all year.

Western Washington University's Dance program will present its annual BFA Capstone Concert at 7:30 p.m. on May 29-30 and at 2 p.m. on May 30-31 at their downtown studio, Ving!, located at 311 E. Holly St.
The performance will include collaborative works choreographed and performed by the 2009 Bachelor of Fine Arts degree candidates: Emily Olson, Paige Fredlund, Laura Bartczak, Sarah Schermer, Kim Shannon, and Brenda Brown. Guest choreographers include Elizabeth Cooper, Wade Madsen, and WWU Dance faculty members Kraig Patterson and Pam Kuntz.
Western Washington University's Dance Program will present its inaugural "Dance Academy for Youth" Aug. 3-21 on Western's campus.
Designed to explore dance techniques that will have participants soaring to new heights, the Dance Academy for Youth (DAY) is for students aged 12-18 who have basic technical dance training that want to enhance their skills and expand their horizons into various genres. DAY offers a variety of eclectic and exciting classes including modern, jazz, mod-hop, ballet, choreography, drumming/musicality, and acting for dancers.
