In its first year as a scholarship program, Mars Hill College Cycling claimed its first podium at a national championship and was ranked as the third cyclocross men's team in the nation. Mars Hill took third overall at the Collegiate Cyclocross National Championships Dec. 12-13 in Bend, Ore. The men’s team was led by Matt Willing who fought back from a mid-pack start to claim the fourth of five podium spots. Paul Webb finished in sixth place.

The Western Washington University club tennis team finished third at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Campus Championship Pacific Northwest tournament to advance to the 2010 USTA National Campus Championship, which is April 15-17 in Surprise, Ariz.

The Western Washington University water ski team placed third at the Division II national competition this past weekend in Bakersfield, Calif.

The women placed third overall in the contest (and first in the ski jump portion), while the men placed fifth.

The Western Washington University ski team is in first place in Division II after three events at the water ski  national championships, under way through Saturday, Oct. 24, in Bakersfield, Calif.

Kelly Thees, Carl Skerlong and Kyle Foley were year-round standouts in a variety of sports during their high school days, but they discovered more fun than they ever expected when they joined the only sanctioned college water ski club in the Pacific Northwest. They found they were pretty good at the sport, as well, as they helped the Western Washington University's water ski club advance to the national championships. "When we learned we had qualified for nationals, we were the happiest, loudest club on the podium," said Foley, one of WWU's leading water skiers.

The Filipino American Student Association at Western Washington University will host a heritage dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, IN the Viking Union Multipurpose Room. "Heritage: The Life of a Filipino-American" will include authentic Filipino food, singing, traditional dances and information about the Filipino culture. The event is open to the public.
