A panel of business experts will discuss what it means to be a leader in green times during a forum on sustainability in business on Friday, Oct. 23.

The forum, titled "Leadership in Green Times: The Path to Sustainability," will take place from 2:30 to 3:20 p.m. in Parks Hall Room 441 on the Western Washington University campus.

Carl Wilkens, a former director of a relief agency in Rwanda who stayed in the country during the genocide in the mid-‘90s, has been added to the slate of speakers in the World Issues Forum/Paths to Global Justice, a lecture series devoted to international social justice issues held at Western Washington University’s Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies.

Ernesto Sagás, an associate professor of ethnic studies at Colorado State University, spoke on the WWU campus Oct. 7 as part of the Inter-American/Caribbean Forums.

The last two events in the series take place today on the Western Washington University campus. The inaugural series of talks and film screenings have highlighted life, culture and history in the Caribbean.

Former WWU President Karen Morse's signature in January of 2007 on the President's Climate Commitment set WWU on a path to climate-neutrality.

In 2007, the WWU Office of Sustainability completed WWU's first Greenhouse Gas Inventory, defining the major sources and levels of greenhouse gas emissions. In late 2008 and 2009, the Office of Sustainability, with support of Facilities Management, began creation of the WWU Climate Action Plan, a roadmap to climate neutrality. WWU is one of the first fifty schools nationally to take on this important task.
