Exhibit of Brilliant, Fun, Evocative Images from 70 Artists from 30 Countries Making Only West Coast Stop at WWU

The Western Libraries at Western Washington University is hosting an exhibit of original art by 72 illustrators from 30 countries titled “An Imaginary Library: Children’s Books That Do Not (Yet) Exist.”

It's easy to figure Barbara Osen is doing a good job as director of the North Puget Sound Branch of the Arthritis Foundation. Just count the people at the branch's annual Jingle Bell Run. "It can be a rainy, miserable, yucky Saturday morning, and yet 2,500 to 3,000 people show up," said Scott Weaver, president and CEO of the foundation's Pacific Northwest chapter.

The Western Libraries are interviewing candidates for an assistant dean for public services. The person hired will oversee reference, circulation, the Music Library and the Map Library. This is a new position, which Libraries officials hope will create synergies to improve service.

An expert on library space planning will lead a presentation and discussion today in the hopes of learning what the Western Washington University community wants in terms of space usage in the Western Libraries.

Scott Bennett, a Yale University Librarian Emeritus and space-planning expert, will lead the discussion from 4 to 5 p.m. today, Nov. 2, in Wilson Library Room 164F, accessible off High Street. During the talk, Bennett plans to share the changing nature of library space utilization and seek feedback from the WWU community.

The Western Libraries Book Sale, open to both the Western Washington University community and the general public, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28.

Access to the book sale area will be from the High Street side of Wilson Library, through Room 171.

The Western Libraries plans to hold a scavenger hunt and open house from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, in the Wilson Library. Attendees can enter to win an iPod Touch and enjoy treats, prizes and demonstrations.

The event is sponsored by the Western Libraries and the Student Technology Center.

The Western Washington University Libraries Book Sale, open to Western students as well as the community, will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, in Wilson Library, 516 High St. A wide range of books, including fiction, non-fiction, dictionaries and encyclopedias, will be available for purchase, said Rick Osen, head of library administrative services.
