The instant he moved to Bellingham to attend Western Washington University (wwu.edu) in 1979, Saul Weisberg was hooked on the Pacific Northwest. He has spent decades "poking around outside" as a wilderness ranger, fire lookout and commercial fisherman. "I was the first climbing ranger in North Cascades National Park and have led wilderness programs in the Olympic Mountains and the deserts of California," Weisberg says. "I've written a lot about northwest mountains, watersheds and place-based education."
