The Music Library at Western Washington University will sell off some of its books, scores, CDs and LPs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, May 23, in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center on campus.

Items will be sold at very low prices, according to Marian Ritter, head of the Music Library.

Flags lowered May 15 for Peace Officers Memorial Day

Gov. Jay Inslee has directed that Washington state and U.S. flags at all state agency facilities be lowered to half-staff on Wednesday, May 15, in recognition of the annual Peace Officers Memorial Day.

Flags should remain at half-staff until close of business or sunset.

Other government entities, citizens and businesses are encouraged to join this recognition.

Work to block parking, delay traffic behind Fraser Hall from 7 to noon Thursday

Sections of parking lot 10G behind Fraser Hall will be closed and traffic on East College Way may be impacted from 7 a.m. to noon on Thursday, May 16, as workers continue their construction work on Fraser Hall.

Three air handling units on three separate trucks will arrive at the construction site; two will be lifted onto the Fraser Hall roof via crane and one will be placed in the basement by lowering it in three sections down the future elevator shaft.


Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity and DECA present ‘Mr. CBE’ May 14

Ten male students from Western Washington University’s College of Business and Economics will compete for the title of “Mr. CBE,” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14 in Western’s Old Main Theatre.

The second annual “Mr. CBE” is a mock beauty pageant put together by the Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity and Western’s Collegiate Chapter of DECA.

Admission is $5 and open to the public.

All proceeds will be donated toward Sacks of Love, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds and awareness for testicular cancer.


Data explore which colleges most lead to work in same field

According to data from the Office of Survey Research at Western Washington University, based on surveys conducted of students who graduated between one and two years ago, students who graduated from the Woodring College of Education were the most likely to be employed in jobs in the same field as their major.

Graduates of the College of Sciences and Technology were also likely to find work in their field of study. Students from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences were more likely to find work in a different field than their area of study.


TLA event May 16 to help folks connect, build community

Western Washington University's Teaching-Learning Academy has been studying that question, and on May 16, they'll hold an event on campus to help folks do just that.


Eight WWU poets to give reading May 14

Eight Western Washington University poets will read their works during an event Tuesday, May 14, in Wilson Library.

Reading their poems will be Bruce Beasley, Ryler Dustin, Allen Frost, Nancy Pagh, Suzanne Paola, Paul Piper, Jeremy Voigt and Mishon Wooldridge.

The event, called Pod of Poets, is free and open to the public. It will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Library Presentation Room, Wilson 164. Access to the room is from outside the southwest corner of Wilson Library, off High Street.


New exhibit shows photos of Campus School

A new art exhibit has been installed in Gallery 1 of Wilson Library at Western Washington University.

This Campus School exhibit displays a number of historic photos taken between 1929 and 1967 that show children and their teachers involved in various activities. Also included is information about the Campus School’s directors and teachers and its educational philosophy. Used for training classroom teachers, the school educated community children from 1899 to 1967.
