COGNITIVE psychologists say accidents involving 'multitasking' pedestrians occur because humans - like the gadgets they are addicted to - have only that much processing power. If they devote too much of this limited brain power to their gadgets, then something else has to give. A 2009 study by the Western Washington University demonstrates just how bad 'inattentional blindness' can get.
