Biking across America

Marilyn Zaas of Solon said it has always been in her son’s nature to be adventurous. Daniel Zaas, a junior at The Ohio State University in Columbus, backpacked with his cousins in Canada and went to Africa on a community service trip, where he not only painted houses but also went scuba diving and participated in other adventures, Marilyn said. Daniel’s next adventure, biking across the U.S., started June 12 in Mt. Vernon, Wash., with friend and fellow Solon High School graduate Ethan Wise. Daniel and Ethan, both formerly cross-country runners at Solon, have already biked along the Canadian border through Washington, Montana, North Dakota and Minnesota. “It has been a great way to see the country and meet some extraordinary people that live here,” Ethan, who will be a freshman at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Wash., told the Cleveland Jewish News from Winona, Minn.
