MAGNIFIQUE: At 55, Helena’s Ann Gilbert to compete in second Ironman France
Helena (Mont.) Independent Record
It’s been 28 years since Ann Gilbert competed in her first triathlon at Spring Meadow Lake State Park, and more than 35 triathlons later, she’s still going strong. The 55-year-old Helena resident will compete in her sixth full Ironman triathlon Sunday in Nice, France. That’s a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run. “I am definitely not that fast, but I can go for a long time,” said Gilbert, who will be competing in the event for the second time.
Why this is relevant:
Western alumna Metta Gilbert was a four-time national champion in rowing.
