WWU workshop to aid community participation in terminal review

The Bellingham Herald
Taking a lead from Western Washington University President Bruce Shepard, on Thursday, May 24, the Western Action Coalition, WWU's Professional and Technical Writing Program, and a panel of community members will host workshops that will inform participants on how to participate in the public scoping process to determine the content of the Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed Gateway Pacific Terminal. Last January, Shepard used his blog on the university's website to publicly define the role that WWU will play in the decision-making process for the terminal, saying that WWU "must be a key player in providing the place, the means, and the experts for thorough and informed inquiry, passionate debate, and full civic engagement." So join us at 7 p.m. in SMATE 140 on WWU's campus at 516 High St. for an interactive educational workshop on the upcoming public hearings and written comment period.
