Host families needed for Korean students

Western Washington University’s Extended Education Youth Programs is seeking 20 households to provide a home for students from Wooshin High School in South Korea for four weeks this winter; approximate dates are Feb. 2 to March 2.

Each host family can house one to two students; room and board will be compensated by the program. Wooshin High School students will shadow a local student at Bellingham, Sehome or Squalicum High Schools for those four weeks.

Western Window TV show airing on Me-TV KVOS

Western Washington University’s 30-minute TV show “Western Window” is now airing at 5:30 p.m. on Mondays on Me-TV KVOS.

The TV show features a magazine format and is intended to showcase the excellence of Western’s students, faculty and programs while also highlighting the university’s partnerships and collaborative efforts in the local community and beyond.

Heidi Grant Murphy, Western Washington University alumna and renowned opera singer, received Western's honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts and sang the national anthem and Western's Alma Mater at Western's summer commencement Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012.

Commencement: student Amanjeet Sahota

The student commencement speaker for summer 2012, Amanjeet Sahota, graduated with a degree in political science and will attend Johns Hopkins University’s School of Nursing in the fall.

Sahota says her diverse experiences in academics and extracurricular activities will help her become a well-rounded health-care professional. Sahota also participated enthusiastically in extracurricular activities at Western, such as mentoring prospective students, helping Kiwanis International with their fundraising efforts, attending the Munro Seminar and others.
