Western Washington University’s Center for Pacific Northwest Studies welcomes applications for the James W. Scott Regional Research Fellowships, established to promote awareness and use of archival collections at WWU and to forward scholarly understandings of the Pacific Northwest. The fellowships are awarded in honor of the late Dr. James W. (Jim) Scott, a founder and first Director of the Center for Pacific Northwest Studies, and a noted scholar of the Pacific Northwest region.

Western Washington University plans to test its emergency building enunciation system at 10:45 a.m. on Friday, June 21.

On June 21, a test voice message via the fire alarm system will be repeated several times in many campus buildings as well as some outside speakers at the university tennis courts, the south campus oval at the Communications Facility and at the Old Main lawn.

Amber fire alarm strobes also will flash in some of the main corridors of academic buildings and some bathrooms.

The contractor for the project to repair the roof of the Ross Engineering Technology Building will set up the project staging area at ET on Thursday, June 20. A vacuum truck will be located on the south side of ET (near Arntzen Hall). On Saturday, June 22, the vacuum truck will be used to remove gravel ballast off the section of roof that’s within the project scope. This work is being done on a Saturday due to the noise that will be generated.

Vicki Hsueh, associate professor of Political Science at Western, has been selected to serve as director of WWU’s Women's Studies Program, Brent Carbajal, dean of Western’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences, announced.

The Washington State Legislature started a second 30-day special session on June 12 after reaching the end of the first special session with no budget consensus. Over the past two weeks, each legislative body passed new budgets, which are summarized below and in the Western Washington University Budget Office's customary chart.

Construction continues in and around Fraser Hall and the Humanities Building on the Western Washington University campus.

The water line work associated with the Fraser Hall renovation project will begin next week and continue until approximately July 3. Activities include:

Western Washington University seniors picking up their caps and gowns for commencement June 12 and 13 have the opportunity to be part of Western’s first-ever sustainability pledge.

The “Western Sustainability Graduation Pledge” is available to any spring 2013 graduate. Students may stop by the pledge table before picking up their cap and gown to pledge for social and environmental responsibility beyond college.
