The Associated Students Social Issues Resource Center and Ethnic Student Center will hold the week-long 50 Years in Student Activism conference from Nov. 1 to Nov. 5 on the Western Washington University campus.

The Associated Students Productions Underground Coffeehouse presents “Comedy Night” at 8 p.m. on Nov. 3 in the Underground Coffeehouse.

The evening will feature acts by James McGrath, last year’s WWU Last Comic Standing winner, Tobias Childs, Jessica Sele, Sean Mills and Travis Nelson.

Vet Corps and the Associated Students club Western’s Veteran Community, with the Associated Students Resource and Outreach Programs Veterans' Outreach Center, is holding a food drive for veterans.

The drive will begin Nov. 10 and will continue Nov. 15 through Nov. 19. Non-perishable food and monetary donations will be accepted. Donated food will go to the Combat Veterans International Food Bank. Monetary donations will go to Western’s Veteran Community.

A $2 for 12 challenge currently is under way, and Western Washington University faculty and staff members can get involved through the Combined Fund Drive.

With this challenge, $2.4 million will be added to the Combined Fund Drive campaign when every person who is not a current donor gives just $2 per month. An additional $500,000 will be added when every current CFD donor adds $2 per month.

In conjunction with International Education Week, which begins Nov. 15, th annual International Education Award will be given to recognize the outstanding effort of a member of the Western Washington University community in expanding global awareness and international understanding on the campus and in the surrounding communities.

Scott Pearce, Faculty Senate president, called the 2010-2011 Faculty Senate to order at 4:03 p.m. Senators accepted senate minutes of Oct. 11, 2010, and standing committee minutes.

The Western Washington University community is mourning the loss of WWU student Matthew Gaphni, a 21-year-old senior majoring in accounting from Bainbridge Island, who passed away Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle following a brief illness.

A funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010, at The LDS Chapel on High School Road on Bainbridge Island (next to Ordway Elementary School). Interment will take place at Port Blakely Cemetery on Bainbridge Island. A reception will follow at the family home.

The Associated Students Resource and Outreach Progams Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Alliance (LGBTA) and Productions Films are co-sponsoring the annual showing of “Rocky Horror Picture Show” at 9 p.m. and midnight on Oct. 30 in Arntzen Hall Room 100. The event is open to the public and costs $1 for people in costume and $3 for non-costumed people.

“There will be scantily clad people, sexual innuendo and crude language,” said Josh Foley, coordinator of the Associated Students LGBTA. “Props are not provided.”
