Western Washington University’s Faculty and Staff Wellness Program received Platinum Achievement for the 2013 American Heart Association’s Fit Friendly Worksite program.

This is the second year that the program received this award.

The Associated Students Child Development Center at Western Washington University currently has openings for the fall. The CDC accepts children between ages 2 and 5. The NAEYC-accredited program serves the children of Western students, faculty and staff.

Western Washington University faculty members and students will conduct an international service-learning experience in Kenya during winter quarter 2014.

The Center for Service-Learning at Western Washington University has released its latest newsletter, which includes stories about its faculty survey and the Backwards by Design faculty retreat.

The newsletter also includes highlights about course and community partners and a student reflection on Kenya Program.

Nominations are being taken through June 27 for the Outstanding Classified Staff Award, which recognizes a single individual who exemplifies a positive and creative approach to problem solving and innovation that significantly advances departmental goals and/or university mission.

With the support of the president, the two classified staff unions on campus (WFSE and PSE) together select one of their members to receive this award, which is presented each year at opening convocation in the fall.

As spring quarter ends and much of campus starts thinking about their own summer plans, it’s a good time to let everyone know about what repair and construction work is planned for the summer. If you leave campus right after graduation and don’t return until fall, you might never even know some of this work happened!

Western Washington University will dedicate the Karen W. Morse Hall on Thursday, June 13.

On Dec. 14, Western’s Board of Trustees approved naming the university’s Chemistry Building after WWU President Emerita Karen W. Morse. A lecture hall in Western’s Science, Mathematics and Technology Education Building named after Joe Morse, a retired WWU chemistry professor and the first director of SMATE, also will be dedicated on June 13.
