Any Western Washington University faculty or staff member who walks or bicycles to work two or more times between March 13 and 26 is eligible to win one of a handful of prizes from the sprint Wheel Options campaign, including a trip to New York City.

WWU Sustainable Transportation participates in the Wheel Options campaigns to help employees reduce their vehicle trips and find new ways of getting to work.

Viking Xpress bus passes for Western Washington University faculty and staff are now available to purchase for spring quarter.

Purchases can be made through the Sustainable Transportation Office. The employee cost is $23, and payment may be made via payroll deduction or direct payment.

After purchase, passes are delivered through campus mail unless arrangements for personal pick-up are made. All faculty, staff and University Dining Services employees are eligible to purchase the pass.

Next week, March 14 to 18, is Celebrate Classified School Employee Week in Washington state.

Nearly 50,000 classified school employees work with students throughout the state, according to a proclamation from Gov. Chris Gregoire announcing the celebration.

On Monday, March 21, Western Washington University's Office of Admissions will play host to the College Planning Day conference for more than 700 high school students from Island, Skagit, Snohomish, San Juan and Whatcom counties.

The conference, sponsored by the Washington Council, will feature representatives from 17 colleges and universities in the state. The conference will be held from 9 a.m. to noon in the Communications Facility on campus.

During break, vehicles displaying a valid winter, academic, or annual permit, or a valid after hours permit may be parked in the following lots: 5g, 7g, 11g, 12a/C, 14g, 17g, 19g, 22g, 24g, 30g, 32g, 33g and all R lots (permits are not valid in metered, reserved or disability spaces.)

Effective April 1, the local sales and use tax within the city of Bellingham will increase two-tenths of one percent (.002) to 8.7 percent. The tax, increased because of the Transportation Benefit District approved by voters, will be used for transportation services.

The rate to use when charging tax is based on the received date of materials. Anything received prior to April 1 will still be calculated on the old rate of 8.5 percent.

Members of the Western Washington University campus community are welcome to join the newly-formed "Learning Technology Group" for a discussion of the pedagogical benefits from the use of web conferencing tools, including a lively presentation of Elluminate.

The group also will explore the Learning Technology Group Blog and Discussion Forum that has been set up for the group, and learn more about what we each of the attendees brings to the table.
