Today at noon, Rigo Peralta, an artist born and raised in the Dominican Republic, will discuss how The Banana Factory Cultural Art and Education Center has given back to the community of Bethlehem, Penn., through making art accessible and providing art and cultural programming for everyone.

This free presentation, which takes place in the Fairhaven College Auditorium, is part of the World Issues Forum at Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies.

Next week’s campus interview sessions for the fourth candidate for vice provost for Extended Education and Summer Programs at Western Washington University have been canceled.

Due to personal circumstances, Earl Gibbons, currently the vice provost and associate vice president at the University of North Texas, is unable to participate in campus interviews on Jan. 24 and 25. The interview sessions on those dates have been canceled. At this time, there are no plans to reschedule Gibbons' campus interviews.

Western Washington University’s annual International Opportunities Fair will take place on campus from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27, in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room. The fair is the largest campus-wide event dedicated to providing information about work, volunteer, study and internship positions abroad.

Western Washington University’s Department of Theatre Arts will present “Landscape of the Body,” directed by WWU Professor of Theatre Charlotte Guyette, from Jan. 20-23 and 26-30 in the PAC Mainstage Theater.

A free preview will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 19 in the PAC Mainstage Theater.

Gov. Chris Gregoire has directed that Washington state and United States flags at all state agency facilities be lowered to half-staff Wednesday, Jan. 19, in memory of Washington State Department of Transportation employee Billy Rhynalds of North Bend, who died Sunday after being struck by a wind toppled tree while directing traffic around water flooding a roadway.

Flags should remain at half-staff until close of business Wednesday, or first thing Thursday morning, January 20.

Four candidates for the position of Vice Provost for Extended Education and Summer Programs are on campus this month, and the Western Washington University community is invited to view their interview forums in person or live on the university's Elluminate site.

The times and dates for the remaining university forums, all of which are located in SL 140, are as follows:

Nominations are now being accepted for the Carl H. Simpson Bridging Award, which includes $1,000 for the winner. The award recognizes and supports efforts to create bridges and forge new paths that others may follow and build upon in turn.

The Outstanding Faculty Leadership Award (previously called the Faculty Outstanding Service Award), which includes a $1,500 WWU Foundation fund, has again been made possible by the Western Washington University Foundation. The award is intended to recognize a faculty member who has made outstanding efforts to serve and enrich the intellectual vitality of the campus and the broader community. These service-focused contributions may include service to the university, service-learning programs, outreach programs to the local and broader community and service to the profession.
