External Education and Summer Programs' fall 2010 online newsletter, "Extended News and Views," is now available.

Included in the newsletter are a rundown of the variety of program offerings available for adults and youth and a recap of events from this past summer. There's also info on enrolling in an upcoming non-credit course and new and continuing programs for youth.

Print and Copy Services at Western Washington University is working with Whatcom Community College to offer the best of both areas to WWU clients.

The placement of the concrete floor in the new collaboration space in the former Miller Hall courtyard has been rescheduled to Monday, Nov. 29. Concrete ready-mix batch plants in Whatcom County have been shut down due to the recent freezing temperatures.

Human Resources has updated the list of employees who are eligible to receive shared leave in accordance with RCW 41.04.650 to include only the following names:

Employees may donate vacation leave, accrued sick leave and personal holiday leave as long as the donations don’t cause them to fall below the minimum balances. Leave donation forms are available in e-form version.

Western Washington University will put on its annual children's literature and young adult book sale Dec. 2 and 3 in Wilson Library on the WWU campus.

Hundreds of new children's and young adult books will be on sale, and the pricing is easy: $5 for hardcovers and $2 for paperbacks.

The proceeds from the sale will benefit the 2011 Children's Literature Conference, sponsored by the WWU English Department.

What do you think of Wikipedia? It has become a true presence on the Internet, praised by some and cursed by others.

At noon on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at Village Books in Bellingham, Western Washington University Librarian Paul Piper will present “Wikipedia: Pure Evil or Beatific Savior?” and lead a discussion on the topic. The presentation will explore some of the concepts and features that underlie Wikipedia.

The Associated Students Productions Special Events presents the third annual standup comedy competition “WWU’s Last Comic Standing” at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The event is open to the public and will cost $2 for Western students with ID and $3 for general admission.

Dreams, hopes and goals of Western Washington University students, faculty and staff are immortalized in “Lofty Aspirations,” a paper sculpture that will be unveiled at 5 p.m. Nov. 30 in the lobby in front of the Viking Union post office on the fifth floor.

The large-scale wall sculpture was created by art department faculty members Cara Jaye and Seiko Purdue in celebration of the Viking Union’s 50 year anniversary. The handmade cloudscape extends from the seventh floor to the fifth floor, next to the post office.
