"Respect All ... Fear None," will be the slogan for Western Washington University Athletics during the 2010-11 school year. That announcement came at a Welcome Back Celebration for Viking student-athletes Tuesday at Sam Carver Gymnasium.

National Geographic's one-hour special on the Progressive Automotive X PRIZE competition, "X PRIZE: Accelerating the Future," will air again today at 2 p.m. on the National Geographic Channel. Videos from the special also are available online.

Western Washington University announces "The Novel: Experience and Write Fiction," a nine-month certificate program taught by award-winning author Laura Kalpakian.

Miller Market, which had moved to a temporary trailer last year while its space in Miller Hall was under construction, has reopened in its old location.

For sale in the completely redesigned space are a variety of grand-and-go items, such as sandwiches, donuts, soup and juice. The market also features drip coffee and espresso.

A bit of construction is still going on in the background, as the new covered courtyard and dining area behind the market isn't quite finished.

Western Libraries at Western Washington University has unveiled its new website just in time for fall quarter 2010. The new site went live Sept. 20.

During the past year, the library conducted interviews, surveys, usability testing and other user research to get a better understanding of the types of problems people had when using the library website and also to determine what features are most important to library users. After many prototypes and several rounds of testing, Libraries staff feel they have created a website that people will love.

The Center for International Studies at Western Washington University will play host to its third annual fall reception from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room.

The reception is an event welcoming international students to campus.

An evaluator from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities will be on the Western Washington University campus on Oct. 20 and 21 for a Focused Interim Evaluation site visit. Western’s recently completed Focused Interim Report, in conjunction with the evaluation visit, provides an opportunity to monitor the university’s ongoing efforts to fulfill its established mission and goals.

Everyone who is a part of the WWU campus community -- including faculty, staff, administrators and students -- is invited to join the Fall 2010 Teaching-Learning Academy dialogue.

The TLA’s primary goal is to deepen our collective understanding of teaching and learning from multiple perspectives and will begin by developing a big question related to teaching and learning that is relevant to everyone.
