Voting for next year's diversity poster at Western Washington University is now open!

The Diversity Poster Contest has been a program supported by University Residences since 1997. The 2013 competition represents the 16th time students have participated in the creation of these posters. Previous designs have included "Breaking Boxes, Building Bridges," "Identities are Infinite" and "Peeling Back Identity Labels."

Well, your chance has arrived! During Back2Bellingham weekend, from May 17 to 19, there are more than 15 “Classes without Quizzes” happening on campus from some of Western’s most loved professors.

Western Washington University students, faculty, staff, alumni and family members will be helping to restore Whatcom Creek from 10 a.m. to noon on Sunday, May 19, during Back2Bellingham weekend.

Professor Christopher Sands and the Center for International Business at Western Washington University welcome Reg Manhas, vice president of external affairs at Kosmos Energy, to campus Tuesday, May 7.

Manhas will give a presentation titled “Energy Development in Emerging Markets in Africa and Latin America: What is a Socially Responsible Corporation to Do?” at 4 p.m. in Parks Hall Room 441.

This event is open to all students and the public, but space is limited.

Western Washington University’s Center for Canadian-American Studies welcomed Alain Houde, a Québec government representative from Los Angeles, and Frédéric Tremblay, director for governmental relations and public affairs in the Québec government office in L.A., to campus on April 30.

Ari Kelman, an associate professor of History at the University of California (Davis), will present “A Misplaced Massacre: Struggling Over the Memory of Sand Creek” at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, in Communications Facility Room 110 on Western Washington University’s campus.

The presentation is free and open to the public. It is hosted by the history department at Western.

Western Washington University’s Department of Music will present a concert by the instrument group “Collegium Musicum” at 8 p.m. on May 11 in Western’s Performing Arts Center Concert Hall.

The concert is free and open to the public.

The Collegium Musicum plays music from the Medieval period through the Classical era.

Western Washington University Assistant Professor of Economics Phil Thompson will give a presentation titled “Some Observations on U.S. Energy Markets and Prices” at 4 p.m. May 2 in Western’s Biology Building Room 212.

The presentation is part of Western’s Huxley College of the Environment Speaker Series and free and open to the public.

In his talk, Thompson will describe the basic features of U.S. energy markets and past energy policies, emphasizing the role of incentives and prices in the decisions made by energy producers and energy users.

Bellingham Technical College’s Fisheries and Aquaculture Sciences program has announced an articulation (transfer) agreement with Western Washington University’s Huxley College of the Environment. This partnership will continue BTC and WWU efforts to prepare stewards of the environment and resources.
