Dec. 7 to 11 is finals week at Western Washington University. Commencement is slated for 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, in Carver Gymnasium.

As the sun rises later and later, campus is still quite dark when the day begins (for some) at 8 a.m.

Days are still getting shorter; the shortest day of the year will be Dec. 21.

Western Washington University students took a break from their studying Thursday to enjoy food, music, button making and massages. The event was sponsored by the Associated Students at WWU.

A chill has crept into Bellingham over the past couple of days, and weather forecasters expect it to hang around. Experts expect high temperatures to dip below freezing by Monday, with snow showers possible later next week.

Hundreds of new children's and young adult books will be on sale at WWU in the upcoming Children's Literature Book Sale sponsored by the English Department.

The sale takes place from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 3 and from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 4 in Wilson Library Room 171. The room is accessible from High Street.

Protesters gathered in Red Square on the Western Washington University campus on Tuesday, Dec. 1, to protest U.S. President Barack Obama's planned troop surge to Afghanistan. After rallying on campus for an hour, the group marched into downtown Bellingham to Rep. Rick Larsen's office.

The rally was initiated by Socialist Alternative and co-sponsored by Whatcom Peace and Justice Center and Food Not Bombs.

A dance performance from the Associated Students Swing Kids club highlighted the annual holiday party at Western Washington University Tuesday.

Under the theme “A Season of Giving,” the event included a 50/50 drawing, with half of the proceeds benefiting the WWU Employee Distinguished Scholarship and the other half going to the winning ticket holder.

A planned dance performance by the Associated Students Ritmo Latino (Latin Rhythm) Cub had to be scratched due to injury.
