Students in Western professor Kristen French’s Education 497 class Seminar in Education Equity participated in a read-in in Red Square Wednesday, Feb. 1.

The first-annual Walk of Life suicide awareness event took place on the Western Washington University campus Jan. 26.

The Associated Students and WWU To Write Love on Her Arms Chapter held the event to raise awareness about suicide and to offer resources to students. Attendees learned tips for talking to friends who are experiencing difficulties and heard testimonies from folks affected by suicide.

The Campus Activities Showcase, an annual winter info fair featuring more than 100 clubs and organizations, took place on campus Jan. 25.

A presentation Jan. 24 featured featured two women from BABES, a support program through the YWCA for women and families living with HIV/AIDS in the Seattle area.

The presentation, part of HIV/AIDS Awareness Week on campus, was sponsored by the Women’s Center, the Sexual Awareness Center and the Veterans Outreach Center.

An event titled "HIV/AIDS and Disabilities" will take place at 6 p.m. Jan. 26 in Viking Union Room 565.

Bellingham Mayor Kelli Linville was on campus Thursday, Jan. 19, to speak in Craig Dunn's MBA 585: Seminar in Environmental Management class. The topic of discussion was government policy and the environment, with one of the main topics being a discussion of the EPA and its relevance. Mayor Linville joined the class because of her background on environmental issues.

Western Washington University men's basketball coach Brad Jackson was given an award Jan. 18 to commemorate his 500th career victory.

Jackson is just the fifth college basketball coach in the state to accomplish the feat.

Western Washington University delayed its opening by two hours today because of the overnight snow, and officials continue to pay close attention to the weather to determine how the conditions are affecting operations at the university and for travel to and from campus.

Western Washington University students, faculty and staff marched from the Communications Facility to Red Square for a candlelight vigil on Thursday, Jan. 12. The vigil was followed by the "What's your vision: A Night of Expression & Growth" event at 7 p.m. in the Underground Coffeehouse. This was an opportunity for the Western community to share stories about their own personal vision in comparison to the vision of Dr. King.

These events were put on by the Ethnic Student Center, the Black Student Union and the Center for Education, Equity and Diversity.

Washington native Allen Stone, along with Kris Orlowski and Eclecticity, performed in front of a packed Viking Union Multipurpose Room on Thursday, Jan. 12, in a concert put on by ASP Pop Music.

Bond Hall, constructed in 1967 at a cost of just under $2.5 million, is home to the Mathematics, History, Liberal Studies and Philosophy departments and the Red Square webcam.

The 91,168-square-foot building was constructed the same year as Nash Hall, a residence hall near the northern end of campus.
