Jeff Grimm, a professor of psychology at Western Washington University, just had a book chapter published in the book "Food and Addiction, A Comprehensive Handbook," edited by Kelly Brownell and Mark Gold.

Western Washington University music professor David Feingold recently returned from the first "Guitarraganza" festival in California.

Feingold was featured at the festival as composer of his 2011 guitar trio "Letter from Zamalek." The piece was featured in a concert given by the guitar trio Tritarra.

John Rybczyk, professor and chair of the Department of Environmental Science, published a chapter titled "Global Climate Change and Estuarine Systems" in the book "Estuarine Ecology, 2nd Edition."

John Lawson, Western Washington University's chief information officer and vice provost for information technology, has been named to the Educause IT Issues Panel. This is a panel of CIOs, other senior information technology or library leaders or faculty selected by Educause. It provides feedback to Educause on current issues, problems and proposals across higher education IT. The panel produces an annual ‘Top Ten’ list as well as other reports for the association.

George E. Mariz, professor and director of the Honors Program at Western Washington University, represented the university’s chapter of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at its 2012 biennial convention in St. Louis Aug. 10 and 11. Mariz serves as past president of the WWU chapter and attended the convention as the chapter’s voting delegate.

Carolyn Nielsen, an assistant professor in the department of journalism at Western Washington University, presented her research "Interpreting the Nation's Toughest Immigration Law: How The Arizona Republic’s Editorials Framed SB 1070" at the annual meeting of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication in Chicago on Aug. 10.

Nielsen also was selected as a national finalist for her teaching module "Journalistic blogging analysis: Examining voice, interactivity, engagement, and ethics," which she presented at the conference.

Joseph E. Trimble (psychology) presented two co-authored papers titled "Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research with Indigenous Populations: Listening to the Voices of the People" and "The Meaning of Coping in Yup'ik Communities Facing Rapid Cultural Change" as part of a symposium focusing on "Conducting Responsible Community Based Intervention Research in Indigenous Communities in the Circumpolar North: Utilizing Local Knowledge and Expertise" at the 15th International Congress on Circumpolar Health in August in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Joe Garcia, Bowman Distinguished Professor of Leadership Studies and the director of the Karen W. Morse Institute for Leadership, was in Washington, D.C.

Joseph E. Trimble (psychology) presented an invited lecture titled "Ethics and the Irresponsible Conduct of Research with Ethnocultural Populations" at the American Psychological Association’s Minority Fellows Program Psychology Summer Institute in Washington, D.C., in July.

Also in July, Trimble served as a member of a scientific review panel for the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, part of the National Institutes of Health. The review panel was conducted in Rockville, Md.
