The stadium lights had dimmed on Kelly Irving's soccer career as she prepared to begin a new chapter of her life in the fall of 2005 as an incoming freshman at Western Washington University. Little did she know the peak of her athletic success was just around the corner. Through persistence that led to a second chance, Irving became the foundation of the Vikings' midfield, playing in a school-record 81 games, tying a school record for career assists that was originally set 25 years ago with 26, and helping the team to two NCAA Division II National Tournament appearances.
