Western Washington University’s student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has been awarded the Superior Merit Award for 2009-10 academic year.

The award is based on outstanding achievements in chapter operations and commitment to providing meaningful programs and services to its members, and this is the 38th consecutive year that WWU’s student chapter has received the award.

Western Washington University’s Center for Instructional Innovation and Assessment will host its annual “Innovative Teaching Showcase Learning Event” from Noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, in College Hall 310.

The theme of this year's Showcase is “Planning for Large Classes.” On June 1, community members are invited to meet the featured instructors, view videotaped interviews with those instructors and find out more about teaching large classes at Western.

Kristi Tyran, an associate professor in the Management Department at Western Washington University, will present “Alleviating Poverty through Management Education: Helping Graduates of a Rural Girls Secondary School in Kenya through Income Generating Projects” as part of the Turning Points faculty lecture series.

Tyran's presentation is the second installment for this academic year of the series and will take place at 5:15 p.m. in Communications Facility Room 110 on campus. All Turning Points lectures are free and open to the public.
